“Mental illness is very common and increasing. One in five Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental illness in any year. The most common mental illnesses are depression, anxiety and substance abuse. PVF is committed towards removing the stigma of mental illness in communities, through connections and conversations and our annual fundraising dinner ensures that our commitment towards supporting and running dedicated programmes in the community are achieved. Guests include business and community leaders, and professionals, all of whom act as catalysts for change in the community. The event is a night of canapés, three course dinner, live music and entertainment, raffles, auctions and dancing (COVID permitting) and, most importantly, for a Greater Cause. Each year we invite a keynote speaker, a prominent and inspirational individual, who has experienced mental challenges or who has helped others through it, to talk of their experience and to break the stigma.
Past speakers include Munjed Al Muderis (Orthopedic Surgeon and Human Rights Activist),
Deng T Adut (Child Solider to Refugee Lawyer),
Jake Edwards (ex-AFL player and founder of Outside the Locker Room),
Dr Geoffrey Toogood (cardiologist and founder of CrazySox4Docs) and Australian icon Normie Rowe AM.”
